Red Hat started the Fedora Project when Red Hat announced that it would be dropping support for its retail Linux distributions to focus on its enterprise offerings. Fedora Core is what Red Hat's workstation product would have been if the company hadn't "dropped" it. I say "dropped" because the Fedora Project is hosted on Red Hat's servers, even though it doesn't receive support or certification from Red Hat.
