Distortion is generally thought of as the unpleasant sound we hear when we push analog equipment too hard to levels that exceed the device's tolerance threshold. So why would we want this in our music? Well, many believe that distortion can enhance sound by adding certain harmonics. Reason comes equipped with two distortion-creating devices.
The D-11 is a perfect solution for when you want to quickly add some bite to your sounds. With only two parameters, the D-11 is a simple device to use.
The principle of the Scream 4 Distortion device is the same as that of the D-11; however, Scream gives you more control over the characteristics of the distortion.
Load Scream into the rack.
The Damage section of Scream is where you choose the distortion type and level.
NOTE
Each distortion model has two additional parameters that are specific to each model and are available through the P1 and P2 knobs . For example, the Overdrive model has Tone and Presence parameters.
Scream is also equipped with a simple three- band filter that you can use to control the frequencies of the distortion.
NOTE
When the faders are in the middle position, the filters are neither boosting nor cutting their respective frequencies.
NOTE
Moving the filter's faders up will increase the output level of Scream. Watch your speakers !
The body section offers four more parameters that can be used to further adjust the color and tone of the distortion.
NOTE
Scream 4 Distortion also supports saving patches. Click on the Save Patch icon (floppy disc icon) to save the patch to a location on your hard drive.
