Acknowledgments

Thanks to all the people at Que who took this volume from an idea to an actual book. On the editorial side, that includes Jeff Riley for launching the project and Ginny Bess, Elizabeth Finney, and Bart Reed for sterling editorial work. Technical editors Ken Cox and Steve Heckler deserve special mention for working through all the code and words and pointing out errors; we've benefited greatly from their advice.

Thanks, too, the production staffBecky Hornyak, Juli Cook, and Tim Osbornfor taking the final manuscript and turning it into a book. No matter how many times we go through the process, we're always amazed at the physical end result and glad that people make it happen.

No book is solely a product of the authors; there are always friends and colleagues who contribute, either directly in the writing or indirectly through helping us learn. Mike would like to thank some of those who've been in that group for him: Amit Kalani, Steve White, Ken Getz, Mary Chipman, and Brian Randell stand out. Mike has also benefited greatly from his long association with the editorial staff of MCP Magazine , including Dian Schaffhauser, Keith Ward, Michael Domingo, Becky Nagel, and Kris McCarthy.

And finally, Mike would like to thank his family for being there. He couldn't do a single book without Dana's support and Adam and Kayla's smiles as they explore the world. That makes it all worthwhile.
