Controlling Measurement and Ruler Display

The following sections provide tips to help you get the most out of Writer.

Displaying a Vertical Ruler

By default, Writer displays a horizontal ruler in documents. You can also turn on a vertical ruler. This is particularly useful for lining up objects in a document such as graphics.

  1. Choose Tools > Options > Text document > Layout.

  2. Select the Vertical ruler option.

  3. Click OK.

Changing the Unit of Measurement

You can change the unit of measurement shown on the ruler by right-clicking the ruler. However, this doesn't change the unit of measurement shown in formatting and other windows throughout Writer. To change the overall Writer unit of measurement:

  1. Choose Tools > Options > Text Document > General.

  2. Change the unit of measurement in the Meas. units field, and Click OK.
