Troubleshooting

Most of the modules covered in this chapter are relatively current and well maintained, so it's less likely you will find problems with them during the install. As of this writing, pnClansite specifically does not yet have a new version designed for the PostNuke .75 release. The module works quite well with version .75, but if you are having trouble with it, try some of the following troubleshooting fixes.

pnClansite Doesn't Register as a Module

This problem usually occurs when you use a directory name other than "pnclansite." With many modules, you can use varied directory names, for example, to install different version instances. The pnClansite module requires that you do not add additional version numbers or attempt to install multiple copies of the module, such as /modules/pnclansite40 or /modules/pnclansite2, respectively.

If you are having trouble registering your module, be certain your module folder name is simply "pnclansite." If it still doesn't work, check your installation of PostNuke and be certain other new modules can be registered. Also try downloading a new copy of pnClansite, as you might have an incomplete package or corrupted files.

pnClansite Error: Unable to Load Required Module!

This error can occur after you have successfully installed pnClansite and you are trying to populate the data tables for the first time. Though the Administration page loads fine, you see the error on pages linked from the Control Menu block. The problem only occurs with PostNuke version .75; prior releases work fine.

The error is due to the hard-coding of the module name in various administration files. The files specifically call the module by the name "pnclansite." You might have seen this instruction in the pnClansite install documentation:

Create the folder "modules/pnClansite" to uploaded the files to.

Using the capital "C" in the module's folder name no longer works with PostNuke .75 because the Application Programming Interface (API) module calls are now case sensitive. To get the module to work with the newer PostNuke installations, you need to use the folder name "pnclansite" with all characters in lowercase.

Remove the module, rename the folder, and then reinitialize pnClansite with the proper directory name. It should work fine from there.

Black pnClansite Pages, Unreadable Pages

Many clan and guild websites are built with dark backgrounds, and black especially is a popular color choice with the online gaming crowd. pnClansite was built to cater to the gaming community, and its administration screens are set with a black background by default.

The module includes this setting in a simple form field, but unfortunately the text color for the module is not configurable. So, if you are using a theme with a light background, your theme's text will be dark, probably black. This results in black text set by the theme and black background set by the module.

You can remedy this dilemma by changing to a theme with light-colored text, but it is much easier to tell pnClansite to use a light background. Scroll down to the bottom of the form. The last field in the main administration page sets the Layout Background Color for the module. You can see the text labels by selecting the text on the page in your browser. Set the Background Color to white by entering "#FFFFFF" and click the Update button to make the change. After the page is refreshed, you can see the page content normally.

pn-teamspeak Error: Could Not Connect to Server

This error occurs when the pn-teamspeak module is unable to connect to the configured TeamSpeak server. It is usually caused by closed firewall ports. Check your web server's firewall to ensure these ports are available:

 TCP: 14534 UDP: 8767 and 51234

If your website is hosted by an external provider, you might need to contact your host's support staff to determine the ports to which you have access.
