Many websites exist not as a single entity but as a cluster of related sites. The sites might or might not share a domain name, but there is some relation that exists between the sites' content or users that bring them together. Parent company websites can help support child product sites with content tie-ins. Cousin sites with similar user interests can share login account information allowing a user to access all sites with one account. There is a great deal of power that can be leveraged by having such a connection.

Creating a multiple website cluster is quite possible with PostNuke as well. It only requires a few edits to files and the database, and you can link up as many sites as you want. This chapter walks through the complete steps for creating a PostNuke Multisites system. The chapter discusses the following topics:

  • Defining Multisites basics

  • Splitting one site into many

  • Combining multiple sites into one
