Institute of Configuration Management

The Institute of Configuration Management, with headquarters in Arizona, has developed a model they call CMII. It consists of a configuration management process, formed to

Conferences

A number of conferences have configuration management as their subject. The most important are

International Workshop on Software Configuration Management. The proceedings from this conference are printed as Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science, which are easy to obtain and to learn from.
CMII Conference. The user group for the CMII model holds this conference.

Ovum

Ovum is an international analysis and consultant company that among other things evaluates tools and issues reports about the results of these evaluations. Ovum is known for its evaluations of testing tools, but it also evaluates configuration management tools. Ovum defines configuration management as "a disciplined approach to managing the evolution of software development and maintenance practices and their components as they change over time."

Software Engineering Institute

The Software Engineering Institute is a research and development center partly sponsored by the U. S. Department of Defense. The better location for information on configuration management is the Software Engineering Information Repository at the SEI, known as the SEIR. Their Web site provides good pointers to the subject of configuration management. Registration is required for access, but it's free.
