Removing Office

In addition to adding and repairing components, the Office Setup program can also remove part or all of the Office 2000 software from your system. You might find this option desirable if you need to upgrade to future versions of Office, or if you need to free up disk space on your system.

To remove a single Office 2000 component from your system, follow these steps:

  1. Close any application programs that are running on your computer.
  2. Place Office 2000 Disc 1 in your CD-ROM drive.
  3. If the Office Setup program doesn't start automatically, click Run on the Windows Start menu, type d:setup (or specify a network location), and press Enter.

The Setup program starts the Windows Installer utility and enters Office 2000 Maintenance Mode.

  4. Click the Add Or Remove Features button.

A list of the installed components in your Office installation appears in the dialog box.

  5. Click the components that you want to remove from your system, and then select the Not Available option in the list box that appears. By selecting Not Available, you direct Office Setup to remove that component from your system.
  6. TIP
You can also add components to your Office installation at this time by clicking the components you want to add and selecting Run From My Computer in the list box that appears.

  • Click Update Now to remove the selected components. The Setup program processes your selection and asks you to restart your computer.
  • To remove all the Office 2000 application files and tools, follow these steps:

    4. Click the Remove Office button.

The Office Setup program asks you to confirm your selection.

    5. Click Yes to confirm the comprehensive deletion.
    6. Office Setup deletes each Office 2000 application and tool from your system, including program files, dynamic link libraries, registry entries, and Start menu information. However, the Office folder structure is left largely intact, and no Office document files are removed. (You can delete these later by using Windows Explorer, if you like.)
    7. When the removal is complete, restart your system to finalize the deletion.
